September 2, 2008 - OPEN WATER DIVER CLASS Instructor: Chris Parker September Schedule Tuesday: 9/2 7-9:30pm classroom, Sunday: 9/7 All Day Classroom & Pool Sunday: 9/14 All Day Classroom & Pool Saturday: 9/20 9am-2:00pm 0pen Water, Sunday: 9/21 9am-Open Water Graduation!!! This is an accelerated class designed to finish up in 5 long sessions rather than the usual 10 shorter ones. Classroom sessions are at the store, Pool sessions are at Health Trax,McDermott or YMCA pool, Open Water Dives will be at Ft Weatherill. Cost: $450.00 or discounted to $400.00 with the purchase of Mask, Snorkle, Fins, Boots, Gloves and Hood at a 10% Student discount. This class includes book, tables, certification/pic card, gear and DVD/VCR Tape rental and lots of fun with an experienced staff who will not only teach you to dive but will also get you involved with dive clubs and other divers who love diving as much as you will. Sep. 5, 2008 - Good Night Idene!!!! (Night Dive at Block island)
This is a night dive on the Idene and the Lightburne Wrecks after dark. This charter leaves the dock just after 6:00 PM and returns around 10:00. Must be AOW certified and have at least 2 lights,safety sausage or SMB and a whistle. Sep. 6, 2008 - FREEDIVING CLASS W/WORLD RECORD HOLDER FOR STRIPED BASS
Instructor : Dan O'Neil This class will concentrate on breathhold excercises to expand your lung capacity,freediving equiptment,fishing regulations (legal size limits),and spearfishing techniques. Saturday September 6th will be the first class meeting at Giant Stride Dive Shop @ 9:00 AM for some of the academics involved followed by an in water session until about 3:00pm. The following session will be Sunday September 14th meeting @ 10:00AM at Giant Stride for more lecture and discussion followed by more in water excersizes. Cost: $250.00 and students of this class recieve a 10% discount on most items. Suit up completely from head to toe w/gun,floatline & float and recieve an even higher discount. Sep. 20, 2008 - International Coastal Clean-Up Day
Splash for Trash with Giant Stride at the 2008 International Coastal Cleanup,September 20th at Ft Adams, Newport, RI starting at 10am. It is a beach/ocesanfront cleanup followed by an underwater dive cleanup.We need divers and non-divers alike so everyone is welcome. I'll supply the trash bags, data sheets, pencils, and gloves. Divers bring their dive gear and a catch bag for the underwater trash collection. This event is coordinated worldwide by the Ocean Conservancy, however volunteers are the backbone of these events. Volunteers receive a T-Shirt for their effort and many local schools and organizations (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, URI, and UCONN) offer environmental conservancy credits for students who participate in this event. For more information about the cleanup at Ft Adams call 401 732 8808 or stop in Giant Stride Dive Shop. Larger groups if you call me with your group total and that will help me with the T-Shirt count for the event. Bring your groups club banner or flag to include in a large group photo we take displaying the proud volunteers along with the collected items. This will be followed by a BBQ/Cook-out with the contribution of a dish encouraged and BYOB. Lets clean up "OUR" Shoreline/Ocean and have a great time doing it! registration

Sep. 27, 2008 - Bass Wreck Dive
This is a Very Advanced dive with maximum depths of over 165 feet and requires an Advanced Nitrox /Deco Procedures Certification or a logbook/experience with similar depth and conditions. Cost is $155.00 and will sell out fast. Redundant Airsource and standard safety equiptment required.
