A 10% Student discount is offered to students on gear for the duration of the class and 30 days thereafter and if you decide to purchase all your own gear we will give a significantly higher discount giving you a better than you will ever get on the internet. If you buy all your own gear from us prior to signing up to take this class the class will be free and you will dive in your new gear. You must purchase new gear from us head to toe with full exposure protection, (hood, boots, gloves & wetsuit) full Regulator setup and either wrist or console computer, BCD (Buoyancy Compensator), Mask, fins, snorkel and at least 1 tank. (10% discount does not apply to this offer....it is 20% or more off when you do the math) This class has no hidden costs!!! We don't just sell it WE LIVE IT!  Open Water Diver Class Classroom sessions are at  Giant Stride Dive ShopPool session location: East Providence Boys & Girls Club, 115 Williams Ave., East Providence. open Water Dives will be at Fort Wetherill.

 

The following paragraphs are the students responsibilities as well as PUNCTUALITY Academic Session (class room)
  • PADI Open Water Diver Manual, Recreational Dive Planner, Diver Log Book
  • Completed Knowledge reviews (from the end of each module in the Open Water manual)
  • Notepad or notebook for taking notes
  • Knowledge Reviews are due each class
  • Must pass all test with a 70%
Confined Water Session (pool)
  • Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Booties
  • Log Book
  • Bathing suit and towel
  • Open Water Session (Ocean Dives)
  • Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Booties, Gloves and Hood. (Provided by student)
  • Weight Belt, Regulator, Buoyancy Control Device (BCD), Wetsuit (7mm ) and tank (provided by dive shop)
  • Dive Flag
  • Logbook and Dive Tables (provided by dive shop)
  • Proper clothing for the weather conditions, large towel
  • Food snacks and drinks
Student responsibilities during academic sessions
  • Student must read 2 modules of the Open Water manual prior to each class
  • Knowledge reviews must be completed and handed over to the instructor prior to the class
  • Passing grade for all quizzes is a 70%. Seven out of ten must be correct
  • Passing grade for the final exam is a 70%. Thirty-five out of out of fifty must be correct
  • Academic session begins at 6:30. If you are unable to attend, the class must be made up
  • Students can not participate in the Confined Water Class (pool) sessions if the corresponding academic session has not been made up.
  • Make up classes will incur an additional charge of $40
Student responsibilities during Confined Water (pool) Sessions
  • You must be sized up for gear before the pool session. This must be done at least 1 day prior to the actual pool day
  • You will be given gear for the pool and it is your responsibility during the time it leaves the shop or instructor, to take care of and maintain gear.
  • You will need to be at the pool 15 min before the class begins
  • All equipment must be cleaned after each class
  • If you are unable to attend a pool session, you must reschedule promptly. If an additional pool is necessary, an additional cost of $100 added
  • All confined water work must be completed before the Open Water dives
Student responsibilities during Open Water Sessions
  • All balances for the class must be paid in full
  • You must pick up your gear prior to the open water dive
  • It is your responsibility to rinse and dry all gear prior to returning it to the shop
  • Gear is due back to the shop after the dive
  • Logbooks must be updated at the end of each dive
  • Students should bring a lunch and plenty of water / juice
  • If you are unable to attend the open water dive, you can reschedule for the next open water class.
  • If an additional open water class is necessary, an additional cost of $100 be added

2 SEATS LEFT!!! This Charter to the P.T. Teti is a 2 tank charter.....dive #2 TBD but will shoot for the Neptune. Departure is at 9:00am so please show by at least 8:00am. The Teti was a small Tugboat originally named Chemung and is intact and upright sitting in 100 feet of water. You must have an Advanced Open Water Certification(please bring c card & log book in when you sign up). Required equipment: SMB or safe-t-sausage,  & Whistle. Cost: $135.00 Reservations are made by full pre-payment that is non refundable. If you cancel your reservation you forfeit the full payment if we can't sell your seat....if our captain cancels the trip, we issue a full refund. Cancellations by our Captain are made on the day of the charter, one hour before sailing time. We cannot guarantee dive sites, alternate dive site selection does not constitute a cancellation or a refund. Please be at the marina in Jamestown 1 hour before sailing time (8am), to fill out a waiver, present a certification card and get fully loaded 15 minutes before departure time. Our boats sail on time and if you miss the boat it's your loss.

Narragansett Bay

We are diving Gould Island and the "Hope Island Tug Wreck" , this 118’ long steel hulled Tugboat sank on February 18, 1968 when she got blown off course in a storm and collided with the Tugboat Narragansett.....now in shallow water she lays upright/intact in 20 FSW. Gould Island is an old Naval Torpedo testing site with lots of structure, tons of fish and a maximum depth of 60 feet (although most of the time 25 feet is the average depth). Whistle, Safety Sausage or SMB, and wreck reel are required. Reservations are made by full pre-payment that is non refundable. If you cancel your reservation you forfeit the full payment. If our captain cancels the trip, we issue a full refund if you paid in cash and a store credit if paid by credit card. Cancellations by our Captain are made on the day of the charter, one hour before sailing time. We cannot guarantee dive sites, alternate dive site selection does not constitute a cancellation or a refund. Please be at the marina 1 hour before sailing time, to fill out a waiver, present a certification card and get fully loaded 15 minutes before departure time. Our boats sail on time and if you miss the boat it's your loss. Show up at the dock for 9am, the boat sails at 10:00 am.....this a tidal dive and we need to hook in for slack tide so be there on time!

The Heroine sank on 6/19/1920 and is 136' long X 26' wide and sitting in 70' of water...a really great dive with lots of fish and marine life on and around her so feel free to bring spearguns.  Cost is $145.00 per diver and only 6 spots are available. Reservations are made by full pre-payment that is non refundable. If you cancel your reservation you forfeit the full payment. If our captain cancels the trip, we issue a full refund. Cancellations by our Captain are made on the day of the charter, one hour before sailing time. We cannot guarantee dive sites, alternate dive site selection does not constitute a cancellation or a refund.  Our boats sail on time and if you miss the boat it’s your loss. Sign up now as these charters sell out quickly. Your seat is held by full prepayment only. This is aboard Priority in Galilee, show up by at least 1:00pm to load gear we leave at 2:00PM.  Cost is $145.00 per diver and only 6 spots are available. On October 22nd 2014 the 55′ tug Karen Jean pulling a 110′ barge during a fall nor’easter sank about two miles east of Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett, R.I.  The 60-foot fishing vessel Merit  heard Karen Jean’s distress calls and went to help.  Putting their own vessel at risk Captain Sidney Smith of the F/V Merit, crew members Gary Detrick and Ernie Nicholson pulled the four shipmates of the Karen Jeanfrom the water.  The barge, still connected to the Karen Jean by it’s towline after her sinking, was retrieved by another vessel but the Karen Jean remains on the sea floor. As an alternative  dive we may hit the The Heroine which sank on 6/19/1920 and is 136' long X 26' wide and sitting in 90' of water...a really great dive with lots of fish and marine life on and around her. Cost is $145.00 per diver and only 6 spots are available. Reservations are made at Giant Stride Dive Shop by full pre-payment. If you cancel your reservation you forfeit the full payment unless we can sell your seat. If our captain cancels the trip, we issue a full refund. Cancellations by our Captain are made on the day of the charter, one hour before sailing time. We cannot guarantee dive sites, alternate dive site selection does not constitute a cancellation or a refund. Please be at the slip 1  hour before sailing time (show up at 1pm, departure is 2pm or earlier) , to fill out a waiver, present a certification card and get fully loaded 30 minutes before departure time. Our boats sail on time at 2:00 pm (or earlier if we can get everyone aboard) if you miss the boat it’s your loss. Sign up now as these charters sell out quickly.
