SOLD OUT!!! On October 22nd 2014 the 55′ tug Karen Jean pulling a 110′ barge during a fall nor’easter sank about two miles east of Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett, R.I.  The 60-foot fishing vessel Merit  heard Karen Jean’s distress calls and went to help.  Putting their own vessel at risk Captain Sidney Smith of the F/V Merit, crew members Gary Detrick and Ernie Nicholson pulled the four shipmates of the Karen Jeanfrom the water.  The barge, still connected to the Karen Jean by it’s towline after her sinking, was retrieved by another vessel but the Karen Jean remains on the sea floor. As an alternative  dive we may hit the The Heroine which sank on 6/19/1920 and is 136′ long X 26′ wide and sitting in 90′ of water…a really great dive with lots of fish and marine life on and around her. Cost is $145.00 per diver and only 6 spots are available. Reservations are made at Giant Stride Dive Shop by full pre-payment. If you cancel your reservation you forfeit the full payment unless we can sell your seat. If our captain cancels the trip, we issue a full refund. Cancellations by our Captain are made on the day of the charter, one hour before sailing time.
